“Girls can’t molest other girls” is going to haunt me forever

When I was about 6 years old, my neighbor invited me to the basement to “play a game.” When I told my mom that he had me take all my clothes off, she called his mom over. They both told me I was a liar. I had to live next door to them for two more years, and they babysat me on many occasions.

When I was about 10, my cousin’s boyfriend used to sit really close to me and rub my leg. He used to keep losing his keys in the couch, and would feel around my body to find them. He would always try to get me to sit on his lap.

When I was 15 I went to hang out with my ex-boyfriend for an afternoon. While he held me down and raped me he told me, “Go ahead scream, no one can hear you. And if by some chance they do, the only people around here are my friends and they’ll just laugh at you, they’ll never tell anyone. No one will believe you.”

There’s a reason these things kept happening to me, and even some other things I haven’t mentioned because I didn’t even realize they were sexual assault. Girls and boys alike need to learn how to express themselves. They need to know how to stand up for themselves. They need to be taught that people will help them, that they should not keep silent. They need to know that this happens to a lot of people, and by everyone talking about it, it will prevent it from happening to more people. These girls sharing their stories inspired me to finally say something. I hope this post will inspire others to do the same.

NO ONE has the right to touch you. NO, YOU DO NOT OWE THEM ANYTHING for whatever they have done for you. If you feel like something is wrong, that is because something IS wrong. DO NOT KEEP SILENT. DO NOT sit there and wait for it to be over. DO NOT let their threats scare you. DO NOT let them win.
